One of the two Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) presidential aspirants, Leon Ssenyange, says he is pulling out of the presidential race, blaming the body’s top hierarchy for conspiring against fellow scribes seeking political offices.
His grievance comes after his opponent and incumbent Sabiiti Muwanga 53-year-old only made it back to the ballot after a review in a new Uspa Vetting Committee (VC), creating an unlevelled ground for the election to take place.
CCTV News’s Ssenyange blames the committee for not making the Saturday (tomorrow) election process democratic by sneaking New Vision sub editor Muwanga back into the race yet he had breached Article 17b of the USPA constitution by not organising the Elective General Assembly must be held in October as stipulated.
“As I throw in the towel, I am still an independent and a focused advocate to do my part in ensuring that whatever we do this Saturday creates a promising future for the association,” he said.
This was Ssenyange’s third bid for president having lost the previous two; Mark Namanya (2012) and to Mr Muwanga (2014).
