President Yoweri Museveni has Monday had a cherished encounter with his namesake, baby Kaguta, born two weeks ago in Busoga.

Young Kaguta was a fortnight ago born to Brenda Suubi Asinde, the NRM’s Flagbearer in the Iganga district Woman MP by-election, who left people gobsmacked when she addressed a rally barely hours after giving birth.

Asinde reportedly gave birth to a baby boy on a Tuesday morning at about 7:00am at Musana Community Health Centre, in Nakalama sub-county.  By 4:00pm, on the same day, Asinde addressed a rally at St. Jude Church grounds in northern division Iganga municipality.

Museveni, who is the chairman of the NRM, was at Nakigo Primary School, Busowobi Parish and proceeded to at Namungalwe, where he addressed his second rally today, soliciting votes for Ms. Asinde ahead of Thursday’s polls. He has interrupted his radio land sensitisation programmes according to Mr. Don Wanyama, the Senior Presidential Press Secretary.

The Iganga seat fell vacant following the death of Hailat Kaudha who succumbed to pregnancy-related complications in May this year.

Asinde, who was runners-up in last year’s general election, defeated 10 opponents to bag the NRM party card. She polled 46,599 votes (about 46 per cent of the total votes cast). She was followed by Asha Babirye who came a distant second with 23,546 votes (about 23 per cent).

President Museveni has asked the people of Iganga to rally behind Asinde, also known as Mama Maadi, a nick-name given to her because of her tireless efforts in equipping villages in the District with water.

Opposition kingpin Dr. Kizza Besigye is also in the area to campaign for FDC candidate Mariam Naigaga.  Five candidates are tussling it out to represent Iganga district.

Others in the race are Mariam Nakato, Aziza Kakerewe and Olivia Kwagala Mawanda, all independents.
