2016 Primary Seven pupils sit their PLEs on Wednesday and Thursday
Police units across the country have been alerted by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) about over 80 primary irate schools in a bid to curb cheating, the force’s in-charge for national examinations has said.
Only teachers and students involved in examinations are to be allowed on school premises during that time, Police’s Katungi Mishambi said.
Mr Mishambi said these unnamed schools are spread across the country, but all police units have been alerted and asked to keep an eye on all centers.
The strict guidelines come just 24 hours before the start of Uganda’s Primary Leaving Examinations scheduled for a Wednesday start and end on Thursday. Primary seven pupils today (November 1) started with briefing.
A total of 640,690 pupils registered for the examinations, with 488,224 at government aided schools and 152,466 at private schools.
He said that unlike in previous cases, all examination materials will be delivered to schools with police escorts.
UNEB’s new Executive Secretary Mr. Daniel Odongo gave candidates the discretion to contact him directly in cases where examination paper envelops are tampered with prior to the exams.
“If the envelope(s) is/are opened outside the examination room, report the case straight to the Executive Secretary, UNEB, P. O. Box 7066, Kampala, Tel: 0312-260753, 0414-288077, 0414- 286173/289399. Mobile: 0772-410878 or 0772-410876, Fax 0414-289397 and 0312-260752,” the examination rules state.
This year’s examinations are going to be Mr. Odongo’s first set in his five year tenure as Executive Secretary, after the long serving Matthew Bukenya retired early this year.
