Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Commander, Norman Musinga has hit out at ‘evil minded drivers’ and revealed plans to to reduce congestion in the Kampala city centre on New Year’s Eve as they prepare to usher in 2017.

Addressing media on Friday, Commander Musinga said the plan will include blocking some roads and some areas will be no-go areas for vehicular traffic.

The roads to be closed to cars will be; Nile Avenue, Speke road, Ternan Avenue, Sezibwa Road, Kintu road, the UBC roundabout and the High Court roundabout.

“Because human beings are so many than vehicles so therefore we want have to allow the pedestrians to walk through than allowing vehicles to obstruct and disorganise the movement of pedestrians,” Musinga said.

Any motor vehicles abondoned around these places will be towed to the Police station at owners risk and expense,” Musinga warned against parking on the named roads.

He also warned what he termed as evil minded people not to dare cause havoc or engage in acts of theft, wallet snatching and pickpocketing saying they will be dealt with accordingly.

“This is a busy night where criminals always want to take an advantage. We therefore warn evil minded people not to disturb spectators. They will be in contact with the security personnel,” Musinga said.

“We need to help pedestrians from harm by bad drivers and thieves alike on New Year’s day,” he added.
