EXTRA police resources have tonight been ploughed into Kampala and other large towns to help win the fight against the anti-social behavior – drink driving which is “tarnishing” the country’s reputation New Year celebrations.

According to the Traffic Commander Kampala Metropolitan police, Mr Norman Musinga, many placesin Kampala mostly are expected and acts of lawlessness during the awkward hours hence traffic guidelines must be adhered too.

He warned motorist against driving while drunk, vowing to arrest whoever goes against the law.

Musinga said: “We are ready to arrest and detain into the new year those who get drunk and want to knock people or still harm themselves.”

Tonight, Police is also on fight to save “drunkards from themselves” by also arresting drunken pedestrians. “Because they are a danger to themselves and the public,” he roared.

Police are cleaning out their image by fighting corruption in the traffic department by arresting those who give bribes to traffic police officers and officers who receive bribes. This means once netted in the drunk driving operations commonly known as Kawunyemu it will be hard to bribe a police officer meaning that you will have pay a fine.

With traffic police motorcycles, break down cars and back up 999 pick up trucks, hundreds of tubes and breathlysers, officers are set to have a field day tonight.
