Following the bloody clashes in Rwenzori sub-region, security forces have been carrying out a massive hunt in which guns that were taken from Police officers by assailants have been recovered.

The latest in the lot were the last three of the 19 guns taken by suspected Rwenzururu royal guards in the November 26, 2016 attacks on Police stations in Kasese District.

Hima Division Police Commander ASP Sam Suubi told TheUgandan on Monday that the last three AK47 assault rifles with 100 live bullets, five magazines, and three magazine pouches were recovered on Sunday in Kasangali market, Bwesumbu sub-county, Busongora North Constituency. The guns part of the seven stolen during the attacks on Bwesumbu Police station in which three Police officers were killed were dumped at the doorstep of the speaker of the Bwesumbu S/C council,  Misaki Mukera over the weekend.

The three guns bear the serial numbers  565831476-31972, 56590014-267995 and 563619267-14918.

“It is a big success considering the March 31 deadline for royal guards holding guns and other Rwenzururu loyalists still in hiding to surrender,” ASP Suubi said.

Recently, the Kasese deputy Resident District Commissioner, Ms. Justine Muhindo said all guns that were stolen have to be surrendered for peace to prevail in the region.

She said if those guns are still in the hands of wrong people, the government will never relax until they are recovered.
