Three police helicopters are on standby to deliver materials to hard-to-reach areas, as national examinations get underway today.
The helicopters have been provided on request of the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Up to 323,129 students started their Uganda Certificate of Education – UCE examinations today from 3,453 centers across the country. Altogether, a total of 1,068,224 candidates will be examined this academic year in Primary leaving examinations-PLE, UCE and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education-UACE.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura has reassigned Mr Katungi Bishanga as head of security team monitoring the ongoing and upcoming Senior Four, Senior Six and Primary Seven examinations.
Mr Katungi, a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), has been working in the directorate of operations and will be deputised by Mr Venus Tumuhimbise from the CID directorate.
“I am ensuring the candidates and general public that we have enough security to ensure that the exams go on uninterrupted. We have deployed in every centre,” Mr Katungi said on Monday.
Mr Andrew Kaweesi, the police spokesperson, said the police have prepared helicopters to fly exams in hard to reach districts especially after heavy down pours.
The exams are expected to run up to mid-November.
