In the highly competitive fashion industry, Sheebah Kasami Pemba’s rise seems almost effortless.
A charming collection marked the debut of SKP (Sheebah Kasami Pemba) Fashion line, where the young designer presented her creations for the first time at the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards (ASFAs) recently.
“For me, color is always a very delicate issue, because I want something not too obvious,” Sheebah, a lawyer now turned fashion designer said shortly after the show.
The ASFAs shows, held at Kampala Serena Hotel during the last month of the year, have helped many independent designers in recent years regionally. It is regarded as an incubator for fashion talents by the local media.
Surprisingly, it is just a year since the stylist and her moneyed man Jack Pemba launched SKP clothing line and at the ASFAs, Sheebah shared the stage with continental fashion powerhouses David Tlale and Mai Atafo at her debut besides impressing royalty in Her Royal Highness Sylvia Nagginda, the current Nnabagereka or Queen of Buganda.
So far, she is launching several collections and will also taken part in upcoming Fashion Weeks in Nairobi and Tanzania.
Mr. Pemba went on a shopping spree for a $6,000 (Shs21.6m) suit, $1,500 (Shs5.4m) Louis Vuitton shoes, a $1,000 (Shs3.6m) Boggi Milano snake skin belt and $5,000 (Shs18m) on a dental procedure for sparkingly white teeth to flash a killer smile for the cameras.
