Luwandagga had hours before his death chaired a UBC Sports department meeting on the upcoming World Cross Country Championship.
Veteran sports commentator Andrew Patrick Luwandagga cause of death is still a mystery. The revered Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) broadcaster and longtime Uganda Cranes match commentator was found unresponsive at 4am on Saturday morning at his home in Namasuba and was declared dead by his family on the scene. Early reports indicated that a congestive heart failure might have been a possible cause. They were now being dismissed by some members of his extended family, only to be replaced by reports of him being strangled to death.
Word has it that Luwandagga was strangled to death by his own son who recently returned from London, United Kingdom over family land. The unnamed suicidal son is said to have been deported recently over drug related crimes. On the fateful Friday night, father and son reported had a big fight in which Luwandagga was unfortunately strangled to death.
Neither Luwandaggas’ family nor the authorities have confirmed any of the reports so far. However, it is common knowledge that the UBC veteran was battling depression for some time now. Besides his advanced age, Lwandagga last week had appeared to be in support of junior UBC workers planning a major strike to show their anger and frustration after spending over three months without salaries.
TheUgandan sought intelligence from Uganda Police and an official said that besides the autopsy to be carried out today, investigators would still have to gather evidence in order to arrest and later convict the killer son in court. Verbal confessions, under Ugandan law, cannot be used in court against defendants.
Despite Uganda Broadcasting Corporation spokesperson Rafsanjan Tatya not revealing Luwandagga’s cause of death, most UBC staffers and the deceased’s friends said they believed he was murdered because Rafsajan said Luwandaga worked until late last night and was expected to feature today on the station to commentate a La Liga fixture.
Many are questioning if the UBC will get someone equally amazing to fill his shoes. However, that is a secondary question. Fans are still waiting to find about Patrick Luwandagga cause of death. And with nobody shedding a light on it, it still remains a mystery.
