The Justice Minister Kahinda Otafire has vowed to address reported cases of torture in detention facilities.
Otafire was responding to pressing concerns by MPs on human rights committee regarding various reports of citizens tortured and subjected to degrading treatment during arrest and custody.
Otafire promised to bring up the matter before the Internal Affairs minister and ask for answers during the governing council of the JLOS which he chairs.
However the Committee chairperson Jovia Kamateeka refused to let him off the hook noting that his ministry had an obligation to supervise detention facilities to ensure proper guidelines on arrest and custody were being followed.
Otafire said the Head of Police and the Internal Affairs minister will have to come to Parliament and provide an explanation.
The MPs told the minister to prevail over the police force and stop the use of unreasonable force and end brutal arrests.
The MPs raised the matter of the arrest of the former Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira who was arrested after police forcefully broke into his home.
Otafire argued that he needed to look into the facts surrounding this case before pronouncing himself on the matter.
