Uganda Cranes goal stopper Dennis Onyango’s last assignment of the year is in Japan where Mamelodi Sundowns will play at their first FIFA World Club Cup and the goalkeeper will be the first Ugandan to play at that stage too.

Sundowns will jet off to Japan today to compete alongside the likes of European giants Real Madrid.

Sundowns earned a ticket to the showpiece by winning the CAF Champions League with a victory over Egypt’s Zamalek in the final in October.

Japanese J-League winners Kashima Antlers will open the tournament against New Zealand’s Aukland City in Yokohama on Thursday.

Downs – who thrashed Free State Stars 4-1 in the South African on Saturday – will play the winner of the tie on December 11.

Real will contest their first match four days later against the winner of Jeonbuk Hyandai and Mexico’s Club America’s meeting.

The competition, which will be staged at the Suita City Football Stadium in Osaka and the International Stadium in Yokahama, features champions from Korea, Africa, Mexico, Columbia, New Zealand, Spain and hosts Kashima Antlers.
