World Cup qualifier Uganda vs Egypt, 4pm @ Namboole, Thursday
Entrance fees: Shs30,000, Shs70000, Shs150,000
Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Onyango is pleased with national football team’s attitude, but does feel more is to come from Moses Basena’s mixed-look group.
It has been a whirlwind couple of months for Cranes, but with Thursday’s pivotal 2018 World Cup qualifier at Namboole against Egypt just a day away, O’s can reflect on an encouraging continuation to the global showpiece’s hectic qualifying campaign.
Uganda are second in Group E after two games and arguably haven’t performed anywhere near their best, which should only be a good thing moving forward.
Onyango said: “The way we are playing we want to try and play some football and do it the right way and I think Egypt will struggle to handle that.”
“To play at the highest level you must play against difficult teams like Egypt. “We need to work hard,” he added.
Hector Cuper’s star studded Pharaohs side who arrived in Uganda on Tuesday night aboard a chartered flight currently top the group after picking a 2-1 win over Congo Brazzaville and a 2-0 victory over Ghana.
Cuper said he has studied the Uganda team well and know how they will plan for the two games in Kampala and the return leg on September 5th in Alexandria at the Borg El-Arab Stadium. The former Inter Milan coach also said changes on the Cranes technical bench could also mean that a lot could change on the team approach.
