Coach Micho Sredojevic’s Uganda Cranes squad has been boosted by the arrival of Captain Denis Onyango in Dakar.
Local football governing body, Fufa publicist Ahmed Hussien told TheUgandan that Onyango had joined the national team West Africa camp on Wednesday morning as they prepare for their first 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Cape Verde in Praia on Saturday.
“Yes, the Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango, straight from continental club duty joined the team before this weekend’s game,” Mr. Hussien said. “They are all in good shape.”
After a goalless draw in Dakar early Tuesday morning, Micho’s men will remain camped in Senegal for acclimatization and training until when the team flies out to the Cape Verde Islands in a one-hour flight on matchday.
Uganda who played in January’s Afcon finals are now in Group L with Cape Verde, Tanzania and Lesotho. There are 12 groups, with table toppers and three best runners-up qualifying for the final tournament.
