The writing was on the wall, a dismal performance at the recently concluded 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon could not save Uganda skipper Geoffrey Massa’s skin.
Before the finals, toptier side, Baroka FC’s spokesman Jimmy Ngobeni initially stated that Massa alongside his compatriot Khalid Aucho had been released but gave them a chance.
Massa who has come under scrutiny recently because of his ongoing goal drought refused to reflect on his individual performance both for club and country.
And the aging forward who failed to hit the mark in Gabon and Aucho decided to remain in Kampala and not go back with Baroka despite three weeks passing since their Uganda’s exit from the tournament.
This irritated club owner Khurishi Mphahlele who went ahead and officially confirmed that they have released the pair.
“We have parted ways with those two players and it was a mutual separation. They now have their clearances and are free,” Mphahlele told KickOff.com.
The pair made a combined seven appearances for the Absa Premiership strugglers, yet failed to find the back of the net in the club’s maiden top-flight campaign.
We have contacted both players’ agents but not word back yet.
