President Museveni has summoned NRM MPs in the 10th Parliament to a meeting tomorrow.
The meeting, whose agenda State House officials did not mention, will take place at the Entebbe State House, about 40 kilometers south of Kampala.
A message sent to over 300 party learning legislator said: “Dear member, be informed that there is Caucus meeting at State House Entebbe on Tuesday. Please be at State House by 9:00am.”
Government critics however insist the abrupt meeting is meant to effectively sabotage the deliberations due in parliament at the same time over the now controversial bonus payments in which 6 billion taxpayers’ money was shared by selected government officials after recovery of Capital Gains Tax from British oil firm Tullow Oil. Parliament is expected to scrutinise the officials who shared the six billion oil case bonus and provide ‘explanations.’ Their first attempt to discuss the matter last week was blocked by an injunction issued by Deputy Chief Justice Stephen Kavuma.
A BRIEF GUIDE TO THAT “STUPID” COURT ORDER
Tuesday’s meeting at State House comes just four days before NRM MPs meet at the National Leadership Training Institute in Kyankwanzi District in central Uganda, which is intended to deliberate about the party’s choices for the upcoming East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) parliament so that they can vote for and defend them.
The retreat is also meant to help to build political and organisational cohesion and to get the newly elected representatives to appreciate their legislative role. According to the NRM secretary general Ms Justine Lumumba, the other objective of the retreat is to enable the MPs to better appreciate the party’s manifesto and how to fulfill it through Parliament.
