Aruu county legislator Odonga Otto has faced sharp criticism for being behind the delay of delivery of justice in the ongoing trial in which Mathew and Joseph Kanyamunyu and Cynthia Munwangari are alleged to have been behind the murder of Kenneth Akena.
Ms Merian Sebunya, a guardian and auntie to the detained Kanyamunyu’s lashed at Otto during a live television talk show for being one-sided in seeking for justice in a case of this magnitude.
“Why do you keep saying that you want justice for Akena and not for both sides?” Sebunya asked.
Otto was later blasted for seeking political capital and cheap popularity when he cried in court following his disillusionment that Winnie Byanyima had come to stand surety for Kanyamunyu.
Sarah Eperu, the FDC’s Womens League spokesperson, said it Is wrong for the legislator to oppose the fact that Byanyima a guardian to the accused stands surety to them.
“In every situation, family comes first and then political affiliation comes later. I was disappointed seeing you Otto a lawyer at that, trying to seek political capital in a sensitive case like this one,” Eperu lamented.

However, Odonga Otto rubbished her claims arguing that he won four consecutive elections without basing on this case nor the support of any of the parties involved in the case.
He informed the public that he was on the instructions of Akena’s fther to offer an olive branch to the Kanyamunyu family to create room for dialogue based on confession.
“Akena’s father is willing to dialogue with the Kanyamunyu family but we need to know from them in a confession, who killed Akena and why?” Otto striked back.
According to Ms Sebunya, their family was ready to come to a round table discussion with the Akena family to look at how the case can be resolved without relying basically on the courts of judicature but said they were uncomfortable with the confession because it would not yield the objectives of the dialogue.
