The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB)  has said it will release the results of the Uganda Certificate of Education examinations today  from the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala at 11am.

The examinations body is going to release the results two weeks after schedule due to failure of the Uneb computers, internal bickering and financial constraints though marking of the exams commenced on December 6, 2016. About 323,233 students sat for the exam at 3,454 centres. The number of candidates also shot up by 8,500 students from 314,286 who sat last year.

The Uneb executive secretary general, Dan Odongo , said the Uneb security committee had already scrutinised the results and the board briefied the Education and Sports minister Janet Museveni, on performance.

It will also be Mr Daniel Odongo’s second time to oversee the national examinations as Uneb executive secretary after he took over from Mr Mathew Bukenya in April, 2016. A fortnight ago he released the PLE results.

They come just a day after most schools in the country reopened for the first term.

Uneb is also  expected to release the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) sometime this month, completing the exam release circle. The new grading system introduced recently for A’Level students has been used in the 2016 examination results. Uneb would in the past depend on the students’ performance to fix the grading.

But this time round, only students with distinction one must have scored 80per cent and above. Distinction two will be between 75 and 79, credit three (70 to 74) while credit four will range between 60 and 69. A failure will be below 35per cent.
