State utility National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) officially opened the doors to its national head office at Plot 3 Nakasero Friday, having recently taken up residence in the new landmark building.

The headquarters of Uganda’s most profitable state enterprise has always been at Plot 39 Jinja Road.

On Friday, Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda commissioned the new swanky offices opposite Rwenzori House Nakasero and next to Nakasero State Lodge.

Officials said the new offices are being constructed using internally generated resources, and come in handy when the NWSC has expanded its service footprint in 205 towns and urban centres, up from 26 towns in 2013.

NWSC Managing Director Eng. Silver Mugisha, and Minister of State for Water Hon. Ronald Kibuulewelcomed guests including leaders including Dr, Rugunda, the NWSC Board, officials from the African Water Association, stakeholders and NWSC top management.

Eng. Mugisha said the new ‘purpose-built home’ will help staff meet the demands of the expanded service footprint.

“On behalf of the Board and all at NWSC a warm welcome to the official opening of our national head office,” Eng. Mugisha said.

The ultra-modern building is fitted with a modern children’s day care Center and a gym designed to promote the work-life balance culture at NWSC, and contractors are working to finalize civil works by October and staff are expected to move during the December-January Christmas break.

Rugunda also launched the New NWSC Corporate plan July 2018- June 2021 and toured the largest sewage treatment plant in East and Central Africa under construction at Bugolobi Wankoko.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda Rt. Hon Ruhakana Rugunda commissioned the new National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) head office.

Since its establishment in 1973, NWSC which is mandated to provide clean and safe piped water and sewerage services, has been present in only 23 districts until 2013 when a new board and management took over the operations of the corporation.
