The National Water and Sewerage Corporation bagged two awards for Best Digital Media Management Campaign and the prestigious People’s Choice award at the 7th edition Public Relations Association of Uganda Excellence awards held on Friday 6th April 2018 at the Kampala Sheraton hotel.

The PRAU Excellence Awards celebrate the greatest achievements and innovations across the public relations and communications industry in Uganda.

Receiving the two awards, NWSC Public Relations Manager Mr Samuel Apedel said, in service delivery, Public Relations cannot be manufactured.

Either the customer has the service or not. Apedel said, as a service delivery organisation it is critical that we stay connected to the customers and communities we serve. The corporation is working on various programmes to connect with the customer, improve the service and supply reliability in all its areas of operation

NWSC MD Dr.Eng Silver Mugisha appreciated the vote of confidence that the customers have in the corporation.
“We recently rolled out a programme (SCAP100) with an aim of extending safe clean water to over 12,000 villages in Uganda by 2020. In addition, the corporation will extend 140,000 new water connections, 20,000 public stand pipes and lay over 8,000kms or water mains extensions to serve more people in Uganda,” he shared.

NWSC is also constructing the largest sewage treatment plant in East and Central Africa with design capacity to treat 42 million litres of waste water every day and generate 630kw of power from biogas. The project will also extend up to 37kms of sewer lines to various parts of Kampala. The plant will also treat water from the heavily polluted Nakivubo Channel. The plant will be served by a pumping station in Kibira and and a sewage pre-treatment plants in Kinawata. The corporation also plans to build sewerage treatment plants in Nalukolongo and Kajjansi.

The PRAU Excellence Awards celebrate the greatest achievements and innovations across the public relations and communications industry in Uganda.

NWSC is also piloting packaged sewage treatment technology in Fort Portal, Kisoro and other towns of operation to improve sanitation and health.

According to Dr Silver, the corporation is working to achieve 100% service coverage in all its areas of operation.
“We commit to water for all for a delighted customer by a delighted workforce.”
