Nwoya leaders denied six-month salaries

The Nwoya District leadership have blamed the lack of commitment by LC3 chairpersons over financial woes the young district is facing.

Disgruntled Sub-county chairpersons this week elected for the first time have been promised salary before the end of January 2017.

In a joint meeting in Nwoya Town Council, the chairpersons said the district owes sub-counties in excess of Shs100 million. The LC3 chairpersons affected include; Geoffrey Opobo of Anaka sub-county, Denis Atube (Lungulu sub-county), Ben Openy Latim (Got Apwoyo sub-county), Paul Okeny of (Alero sub-county) and Okot John Ben Lutinga of Purongo sub-county.

Nwoya Chief Administrative Officer Gerald Bwayo blamed the delay on the payment to the slow transfer of funds sent by the central government to the sub-counties and the long processes of obtaining the payroll since the chairpersons have never been civil servants since assuming office in June 2016.

Mr Bwayo however said there are efforts being done to ensure the unpaid LC3 chairpersons get their salaries soon enough.
