Police has arrested a woman whom they accused of conniving with thugs to stab her husband to death in a disguised robbery.
Ms Evas Gahwire from Kizanga village in Rwekiniro sub county is being held at the Ntungamo Police Station in Western Uganda.
Rwizi region Police spokesman Ibin Ssenkumbi said she was picked up by the cops at the funeral of her late husband Evaristo Gahwire, 54, when the police were tipped that she could be an accessory to the murder. An accessory is a person who assists in the commission of a crime, but who does not actually participate in the commission of the crime as a joint principal. The distinction between an accessory and a principal is a question of fact and degree.
Ssenkumbi said that they suspect that the wife, who relatives say had developed misunderstanding with the husband in collaboration with her children knew about the plot to kill the man. The couple had been married for thirty years.
Police are still hunting for two of her elder sons have since gone into hiding after the death of their father.
Ssenkumbi told the TheUgandan from Mbarara that when according to statements from Ms. Gahwire’s neighbors, when thugs stormed her residence, she suspiciously managed to flee leaving the husband to be brutally killed using a panga.
Mr Ssenkumbi said Ms Gahwire would be charged with murder once investigations are completed.
