Ruling party National Resistence Movement’s Hon. Lillian Nakate’s victory as Luweero Woman Member of Parliament has been upheld by the Court of Appeal.

Nakate a political novice and an engineer by profession was accused lost a petition filed by former MP and Democratic party candidate Brenda Nabukenya (pictured up ) whose short-lived grip of the Luweero Woman MP seat she snatched. She had successfully petitioned court to nullify the victory on grounds of voter bribery and non-compliance of electoral laws.

It was Judge David Batema’s ruling that Nakate bribed voters when she gave a saving group at Vvumba village in Butuntumula sub-county sh100, 0000 as an inducement to vote for her hence nullifying her victory and ordering for fresh elections.

In a bid to retain her seat, Nakate petitioned the Court of Appeal seeking orders to overturn Judge Batema’s decision so that she can represent the women of Luweero district.

But on Wednesday, 3 justices including; the Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma, Paul Mugamba and Alfonse Owiny-Dollo  said there was no need for fresh elections and Nakate would retain her seat.
