NRM’s Kibedi Nsegumire floored again

The court of Appeal in a twist of events confirmed Democratic Party’s Charles Musoke Sserunjogi as the Kampala Central Division mayor after dismissing with costs an appeal filed by his rival National Resistance Movement’s Kibedi Nsegumire (pictured up).

Three justice; Remmy Kasule, Richard Buteera and Hellen Obura unanimously resolved that after a careful perusal of the High Court record and judgement, they have found no reason to tamper with it  because Nsegumire failed to adduce satisfactory evidence linking Serunjongi to the commission of electoral offenses.

The justices last week then upheld Justice Rugardya Atwooki’s ruling confirming Sserunjogi as the validly elected mayor of Kampala Central Division.

Nsegumire had accused Sserunjogi of defaming him during the duo’s campaigns by alleging that he had stolen land and maize belonging to the youths during his (Nsegumire) tenure of office as a youth councilor.

He had also unsuccessfully accused Serunjogi of conniving with the Kampala district returning officer Charles Ntege to falsify the results of the election.

Justice Atwooki said he had observed that some entries of the results on the tally sheets had been forged and ordered police to arrest those who committed this crime.

Charles Musoke Serunjogi remains the validly elected Kampala Central division mayor.
