A gunshot wound is a severe, traumatic wound which is triggered by injuries from bullet powder charge hitting the body part. Gunshot wounds can be life-threatening, especially when it injures vulnerable body parts where major and rapid blood loss is likely to occur. The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) deputy secretary general, Mr Richard Todwong’s situation is not that serious right now according to family sources but nonetheless, analysts say those scientific bullets tend to have high grade poisons.
Mr. Todwong’s brother, Thomas Lapyem told TheUgandan by phone that they had left Gulu Independent hospital to enable the NRM honcho nurse the wound in the capital at the A-class International Hospital Kampala (IHK).
After Todwong’s arrival in Kampala, Secretary General Hon Justine Kasule Lumumba called for a press briefing and disclosed that not even the victim can authoritatively confirm where the bullet came from but investigations into the incident were still on.
Differing stories
According to a related account by Richard Tadwong’s associate Sam Paul Nakhaima, the unfortunate incident happened when the NRM bigwig was on his way to Gulu to check on his wife who had given birth on Saturday evening, when he reached at Coo Pelwo trading center, in Kiryandongo sub county, Kiryandongo District at about 7:40 pm, a vehicle ahead of him knocked and crushed beyond recognition an unnamed boy, around 6 years old but the driver sped off.
Todwong told his driver to speed up so that they can catch up with the vehicle ahead so as to stop the suspect but instead the criminal just continued speeding. On reaching the accident scene, Mr Todwong found multitudes of people wailing helplessly, but as the driver of the Lorry attempted to run. In the due course, Todwong pulled out his gun and shot some bullets in the air to scare the suspect as well to slow him but to no avail. Mr forgot to close the trigger safe his pistol and ended up shooting his leg.
A pricky part is in the narrations provided by Todwong family, they say a bullet shell from the gun returned with heavy pressure and hit his leg creating a wound. This account is contradictory to the admission report of Gulu Independent Hospital where he was treated shows that the he was admitted in the VVIP Ward at 9:47pm on Saturday with a gunshot wound after being referred from Family Health Care in Kiryandongo District.
NRM SG Lumumba also told media on Sunday that ‘senior citizen Todwong’ was trying to stop a driver who had hit a bodaboda dweller and was speeding off. She also dismisses social media allegations that it was a domestic issue.
