The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has signed a pact with the Nordic country of Denmark for a new project to serve over 1million people in Kampala.

NWSC MD Dr.Eng Silver Mugisha and H.E Mogens Pedersen the Danish Ambassador to Uganda on Wednesday unveiled the new South and West of Kampala water system along Entebbe road which will have a water supply system with a total capacity of 135,000million litres per day.

Mr Mugisha said the project will also serve 200,000 poor people through the NWSC  pro-poor initiative.

This project will do a lot in improving the current sanitation situation in the South of Kampala by implementing a 400,000litres per day faecal sludge collection and treatment plant in Kajjansi,” Mr Mugisha said

“NWSC is doing a good job and the Government of Denmark has come on board to support efforts to achieve safe water for all,” Danish Ambassador to Uganda H.E Mogens Pedersen praised NWSC at the event.

Construction of trunk systems, reservoirs and system booster stations will all be supervised by NWSC.

Recently, NWSC completed a 12km transmission line directly from Ggaba treatment plant to an eight-million litre reservoir in Namasuba on Entebbe Road.

The upgraded line and reservoir has solved water shortage in Najjanankumbi, Namungoona, Namasuba and surrounding areas.
