A bitter row between opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General Hon. Nandala Mafabi and the party’s head of the Electoral Commission Dan Mugarura is threatening to split the second biggest political party in Uganda into pieces.
The powerful duo is fighting over control and management of processes leading to the delegates’ conference later this year when FDC president Gen. Mugisha Muntu will be seeking renewal of his mandate – where MAFABI is expected to challenge him once again.
The opposition bosses’ washed their dirty linen in leaked highly classified group emails between 8 party honchos including Nakawa MP Micheal Kabaziguruka, Alice Alaso, General Muntu, Patrick Baguma, Geoffery Ekanya among others. This is according to reports by senior journalist John V. Sserwaniko who says Nandala goes native on Mugarura who appears to be supported by a majority of the bosses including his deputy, Kabaziguruka over claims the Mugarura the legislator mismanaged Shs600m that was previously released to him to conduct party activities.
Magurara in a series of email replies accuses Nandala Mafabi of liking to create ‘controversies’ to bring bad publicity to the party, which benefits the ruling NRM regime of President Museveni. The aging Mugarura also makes reference to the manner in which Maj. Rubaramira Ruranga who chaired Nandala’s anti-Muntu campaigns last time defected to NRM and implies there is a rumor Nandala may follow suit in case he loses to Muntu again.
Mugarura warns Nandala to tread carefully “unless you want some of us to begin taking the rumor seriously.”
The rumor is about whispers in the Najjankumbi FDC corridors that Museveni has been having his eyes on Nandala Mafabi and Ingrid Turinawe as his next big fish from the opposition and they have been talking back and forth.
