Nakasero Tabliqs explain why anti-terrorism Police raided Mosque, detained 10 people
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Muslims at Nakasero Mosque have linked the early morning raid by operatives from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task-JATT to the proposed Ummah House project.  A team of JATT operatives raided on Nakasero Mosque on Plot 4 Snay bin Amin Street in Kampala at 1am and carried away six computers, vital documents, USD 4800 and over Shillings 5 million.

The operatives also picked up about ten people from the mosque. Habib Buwembo, the Mosque Publicity Secretary, believes the raid is connected to the proposed Ummah house project. The Shillings 10 billion project is the brain child of Sheikh Muhammad Yunus Kamoga, the jailed leader of Jamat Dawatil Salafiya.

According to the artistic impression, once completed, the project will host the headquarters of the group, a library, health facilities and recreational facilities. Buwembo explains that each time any of their leaders or members is picked up by security they are questioned about the Ummah house project.

He explains that part of the money and documents taken away by the operatives were for the project.  Buwembo says there was no justification for police to raid the mosque in the wee hours.

Ali Mutaasa, another Muslim wonders why security doesn’t respect the Muslim leadership. Sheikh Milad Kaluma, wonders why security is so interested in the Ummah house project.

The officers stormed Nakasero mosque in the wee hours of Tuesday morning and ransacked it.

Emilian Kayima, the spokesperson  Kampala Metropolitan Police declined to comment on the raid, saying police will issue a statement in due time. It is also not yet clear whether the raid is in anyway connected to the arrest of top leaders of Jamat Dawatil Salafiya including the acting Amir Ummah, Sheikh Yahaya Mwanje and General Secretary, Ayub Nyende among others.

A combined team of police and officers from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT) have raided Nakasero Mosque on Plot 4 Snay bin Amin Street in Kampala.

Tension has been high at Nakasero mosque since the top officials were picked up in connection to the killing of Sheikh Major Muhammad Kiggundu.
