Developed as an exclusive cliff-top hotel high above the city, the Naguru Skyz Hotel offers businessmen, conference delegates and families the best of both worlds.
The hotel’s unique combination of exceptional service, luxury accommodation and tranquil setting has ensured that it is fast becoming the best in comfort and entertainment in Uganda with several packages lined up for this Christmas and New Year’s day celebrations.
The hotel is set in the heart of Naguru Hill, 4,331 feet above sea level and the new hotel, with jaw-dropping views over one of the Uganda ‘s most dramatic and beautiful neigbhourhoods. The view from this Hotel is sp incredible; one can see the tops of most of the other hills-notably Kololo, Muyenga, Mbuya and Mutungo but also the low-laying Kamwokya, Bukoto, Ntinda, Kisaasi and more areas west of Kampala City CBD.
Offering absolute privacy, peace and tranquility, the hotel’s modern, spacious and bright 141 Delux and Standard rooms are nothing short of architectural wonders.
The hotel under the Protea by Marriott chain is owned by regional hospitality guru, Mr. Patrick Bitature and the staff are exceedingly welcoming. Facilities are in keeping with the historic character of the businessman’s other hotels in Kampala and Entebbe.
The hotel is divided into four blocks, each with five floors. Each floor has a corridor on both left and right, which leads to three rooms on each side.
The progressive hotel is targeting tech-savvy millennials and business travellers with its four-star finishes and quality connectivity, with social hubs for enhanced networking opportunities.
The conference facilities are numerous in the four blocks of the hotel with tea and coffee making facilities, corporate meeting rooms and conference facilities fully installed with televisions and techy work charts. The rooms and rooftop terraces are amazing venues for cocktail and social events with Barclays Bank Uganda and top insurance firms in Kampala frequenting the hotel this December.
In sync with the sister Protea Hotels, Airport shuttle, laundry/dry cleaning services, arealso available. The premises are also guarded by security personnel who welcome guests with a professional smile unlike most establishments in East Africa.
There are various dining options, including the fabulously decorated Chapter Two, the hotel’s largest restaurant, maximum 120 guests attended to experienced chefs, and serves a menu of Hungarian -inflected cuisine, with dishes such as my favourite beef meatballs with bread rolls and butter, tender beef goulash, bean, vegetarian or red pepper for starters while for the main course I recommend grilled fillet of beef (30g marinated and char-grilled with seasonal vegetables) served with creamed mushroom and side dishes of mushed potatoes, rice or chips. On my second visit, I will taste the chicken dishes.
The bar, located in the restaurant, specialises in craft cocktails and freshly pressed juices but has a large wine list, premium whiskeys/spirits and local beers. Oh! Chapter Two restaurant also has a V.I.P section.
The pool is a charming one surrounded by a fully stocked bar and sitting area with numerous television screens where football lovers can watch their favourite European clubs play.
Final touches are being affected on the Roof Terrace with its unique rooftop bar. Guests will be thrilled by the absolutely breathtaking views of Kampala from this amazing facility located six storeys above street level.
Value for money
Despite being situated in one of the highly sought after location within Kampala City, Naguru Skyz Hotel has developed a daily room rate this festival season that is extremely affordable for the millennial traveller. Delux rooms have Air conditioning, a lounge, LCD TV with access to over 54 channels and a well-appointed King/Queen size bed, are all tailored for an extra-ordinary comfort.
Inside the rooms, expect a mash-up of Turkish sourced furniture, artworks and ceramics, side tables and study lamps, plus textured finishes. All bathrooms have a tub/shower combination although those in the Delux suites are swankier with a marble finish, separate shower and very nice tubs.
There is also a safe in each standard room where you can keep your valuables. The standard room has a shared balcony in the event that you want to spend time outside.
The all rooms featured a free (yes, free!) stocked mini-bar and cosy, yet modern, interior design.
Access for guests with disabilities?
Yes. There are ground-floor rooms and accessible bathrooms.
Family-friendly?
There are plenty of interconnecting rooms and children are reasonably well catered for in the restaurants. If gazing out at the incredible view isn’t enough to keep you occupied, the hotel will offer a plethora of complimentary daily activities, with a focus on health and wellness.
