From 2002, Mr. Kiggundu as EC head oversaw three presidential contests all won by the incumbent Yoweri Museveni

President Museveni has lauded out-going Electoral Commission chairman, Dr Badru Kiggundu and his top management team for a job well done.

Dr Kiggundu who Museveni recently appointed to chair a project steering committee to oversee the successful completion of multibillion dollar Karuma and Isimba hydropower projects, led his outgoing EC team to pay a courtesy call on the head of state on Friday at State House, Entebbe.

“I have today met members of the Electoral Commission, who paid a courtesy call on me at State House, Entebbe,” a brief statement from State House read, adding: “I thank them (EC) for their service to the country.”

President Yoweri Museveni has received a delegation of officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) who paid a courtesy call on him on Friday at State House, Entebbe.

Mr Kiggundu’s contract as chairman of the EC expires in November, bringing his tenure that started in 2002 to an end.

Throughout his tenure, the opposition took swipes at Mr Kiggundu, and his colleagues, saying they would eventually leave office having failed to deliver credible elections. Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Kizza Besigye called the February 18 presidential election “rigged by Kiggundu”.

The animosity continued in aftermath of the last poll exercise supervised by Dr. Kiggundu saw President Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement has swept all but one LC5 and Woman MP slots in late August in the new districts.

The NRM party flag bearers surprisingly won seats of the parliamentary and district chairpersons in Kagadi, Kibaale and Kakumiro districts.
