President Museveni has stopped Parliament’s Defence and Internal Affairs Committee from continuing investigations into the raid on Rwenzururu kindom last November. The raid claimed lives of more than 100 civilians and security personnel  while dozens of others are in prison including Rwenzururu king Charles Wesley Mumbere.

The Committee chairperson Judith Nabakooba , who is also the Mityana District Woman MP  confirmed the suspension of the probe  although she denied claims that she had been influenced by the President .

TheUgandan has however learnt that the committee stopped the inquiry following a meeting with the president; just moments after the committee had started investigating the Kasese killings.

Ms Nabakooba who confirmed that the committee would not submit the probe report about Kasese clashes said the president Museveni had concerns about the legality of the probe since the matter are before court.

“The President guided us on sub-judice and there is no way we would go against his word,” said the NRM legislator before adding that “even the Speaker was warned about the matter”.

Some legislators contacted by TheUgandan expressed discontent, saying that by stopping the probe; the president is usurping the mandate of parliament.

In December last year, King Mumbere accused the army and police of summarily executing his subjects during what he said was a ruthless massacre on November 27.

The accusations of extrajudicial killings are contained in an affidavit the king filed before the Jinja High Court in support of a bail application.

King Mumbere was given bail on strict conditions on January 13 before he was arrested again and sent back to jail on fresh charges of terrorism.

The Rwenzururu palace in Kasese still remains under close watch of security forces as it is regarded as a crime scene.
