Museveni ‘lying about new age’ says NRA Colonel (rtd)

Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni’s age has long been up for debate but his latest exposures have been rubbished by his political rival, fourtime presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye.

The Ugandan government has consistently said he was born in 1944, but before last year’s general election the opposition accused Mr Museveni of lying, insisting he wasn’t 71 but actually five years older and, therefore, too old to run for election as the country’s age limit is 75.

Now there’s a new twist to the story, with the president’s office publishing what it says is a baptism document listing Mr Museveni’s date of birth as 3 August 1947, which would make him 70 years old.

That would make him 74 years old at the time of Uganda’s next general election in 2021, and therefore young enough to run for a sixth term in office.

Besigye on Monday said; “Museveni didn’t discover the day he was baptized he always knew.  That is why he mentions it in mustard seed.  A liar is Uganda’s president.”

President Museveni has reduced his age by three years but the reaction from Ugandans is not that good with references being made from his his autobiography Sowing the Mustard Seed.

The president has said previously that he does not know the exact date of his birth.

“My parents were illiterate and so did not know the date,” it quotes him as saying in his autobiography Sowing the Mustard Seed, published in 1997.

But Dr. Besigye’s camp insists that if Museveni takes oath and corrects the ‘age mistake’, it means he will still be eligible to stand for president in 2021 without amending the constitutional article 102 clause (B) that bars one to stand for presidency after clocking 75yrs.

President Museveni will be 74yrs in 2021.

The President was baptised on August 3, 1947 and today, together with First Family members, joined hundreds of Christians to commemorate 70 years since he was baptised.

Nevertheless, he has insisted to the press that he is in excellent health, saying last week that he had never had a sick day in over three decades:

“Have you ever heard that Museveni has fallen sick and my legs hanged in hospital, for the last 31 years? This is because I observe some of these health tips which have eventually helped me to prevent some of these diseases. Many of the diseases are preventable,”he boasted.

Uganda’s constitution was amended back in 2006, enabling him to run for a third presidential term.
