President Museveni is in Cairo, Egypt for a three-day state visit on the invitation of His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Upon arrival, President Museveni held bilateral talks with his host and thereafter witnessed the signing of agreements in areas of cooperation between the two states.
These are energy (where among others Egypt will help build a 4MW power plant in Busia), trade (where Egypt will support establishment and management of industrial zones) and agriculture.
The two heads of state thereafter addressed a joint press conference.
Museveni’s two-day visit to Cairo comes per Sisi’s invitation. Museveni also invited Sisi to visit his country as the first Egyptian president to see the Nile’s source and discuss its needs; Sisi gladly accept, promising to visit Uganda as soon as possible.
Both presidents affirmed during a joint press conference that they discussed a lot of issues of mutual interest regarding water security and Africa. Sisi affirmed that he explained Egypt’s point of view about several issues regarding water security and he thanked his Ugandan counterpart for the historical visit.
Earlier, Sisi received the Ugandan leader at Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace and several cooperation agreements were signed between the two countries.
Museveni’s visit is aimed at discussing ways to promote bilateral relations, in line with Egypt’s keenness to coordinate and cooperate with its brotherly African countries in different fields.
In June 2017, Sisi visited Uganda to participate in the Nile Basin Summit; several talks were held between Sisi and his Ugandan counterpart on the sidelines of the summit. Sisi’s first presidential visit to Uganda was in December 2016, where the two leaders praised the long-historical relations between the two countries and affirmed that efforts will be exerted to enhance the two countries’ relations and cooperation.
