We broke the story in December 2016 about the Commander in Chief, Gen. Yoweri Museveni firing the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Katumba Wamala.
It was just a matter of time and a Tuesday morning radio message sent by President Museveni announced the dumping of Gen. Katumba at the lowly Ministry of Works as a junior minister.
Gen. Katumba who less than a week ago survived being killed by suicide bombers in Somalia has been replaced by Maj Gen David Muhoozi the former head of the UPDF Land Forces. He is the ninth UPDF boss.
Ironically in 2013 when Gen. Katumba became the eighth military boss, he was replaced by then Brig Muhoozi who was been promoted to Major General. He had been the commander of air defence division in Nakasongola.
Maj Gen Mbadi who was tipped to replaced Katumba has been elevated to the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces’ position.
Museveni’s son Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been appointed Special Presidential Advisor.
Brigadier Peter Elweru commanded the operation that oversaw UPDF Commandos raid Rwenzururu palace and capture King Wesley Mumbere has been promoted to Major General and leaves the Mbarara 2nd Division commander’s job to takeover new CDF Maj Gen David Muhoozi’s old job as Land Forces head.
The Commander Air Defence is Brig Mugyenyi who has been promoted to Maj General.
Lt Col Abel Kandiho has since been elevated to Colonel and appointed Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence boss replacing Brigadier Charles Bakahumura.
Most of these officers promoted and transferred have formerly worked as presidential guards before they were given roles of command in the UPDF.
