Museveni endorses ‘Tuk Tuk’ motorcycles, renders Beti Kamya useless

President Museveni has receded Kampala minister Beti Kamya’s recent directive banning three-wheeled motorcycles (commonly known as tuk-tuk) from the city ostensibly even when they are not licensed.

Tuk tuk operators have been engaged in fights with commuter taxi operators in Nateete and many have been arrested and others sustained injuries but on Tuesday while addressing Kyadondo East NRM candidate Sitenda Sebalu’s rally in Kasangati, Museveni gave a green light to tuk-tuk riders to keep in business.

“These problems you’re having are because you vote in the wrong leaders,” President Museveni told tuk-tuk operators at Manyangwa, Kyadondo East constituency.

Many were shocked when Mr. Museveni even hitched a ride in a tuk-tuk to the rally venue just after midday on Monday.

This was interpreted by many as a populist stunt by the President who is desperate to wow voters towards the weaker NRM flag bearer Mr. Sitenda.

It is also seen a show of zero support to his Minister Ms. Kamya who directive has drawn the ire of the motorcyclists who on Tuesday reportedly tried to attack her home.
