Beijing has a new ambassador. President Yoweri Museveni on Friday morning announced the appointment of Dr Crispus Kiyonga as the new envoy to replace the current H.E Charles Wagidoso who is yet to be given a new assignment.
In a statement by the President’s spokesman Don Wanyama, Museveni said he had found it necessary to “In pursuant to Article 122 (1) of the Constitution.”
The former minister of defence Dr. Crispus Kiyonga has lately been in the limelight for blaming the current crisis in Kasese on political and cultural opportunists who have been misguiding people in Kasese in which more than 100 Bakonzo died and scores were jailed.
He defended the military and said the attack on the palace was inevitable because President Yoweri Museveni has been extremely patient by indulging in negotiations with Rwenzururu agitators and loyalists since 1986.
Dr. Kiyonga, the former MP for Bukonzo West since 1980 was defeated in the February elections by Atkins Katusabe of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party that swept all the six parliamentary, and nearly all local council, seats in Kasese.
Some analysts largely blame Dr. Kiyonga’s defeat on his hard stance against Rwenzururu Kingdom.
President Museveni sent the names of appointments to Uganda’s foreign missions and consulates abroad to Parliament for consideration and approval.
