Government has stopped Makerere University staff from making any internal or external travels on behalf of the university. The ban is in line with the November 1st directive of President, Yoweri Museveni to close the university indefinitely.
It followed the failed negotiations between management, council and Makerere University Academic Staff-MUASA over unpaid incentive amounting to Shillings 28bn. Following the presidential directive, Makerere University council led by Eng. Dr. Dr. Charles Wanna Etyem convened an emergency meeting and pronounced it’s self on the implementation of the directive.
Council resolved that all university entrances must remain closed, security be beefed up by the Uganda Police Force to protect property, equipment and installations. It also resolved that all students vacate the university premises and halls of residences.
