MPs task Museveni, IGP Kayihura on Felix Kaweesi assassination

Members of Parliament have given government a three weeks ultimatum to release a report on the escalating killings in the country or else they institute a committee to investigate.

Flanked by Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament Theodore Ssekikubo and Kasese Municipality MP Robert Centenary, the legislators are demanding for an immediate resignation of Police chief Kale Kayihura.

Ssekikubo said the President Museveni should come out and reassure Ugandans about their security. He also questioned the logic of installing security cameras in the city when we have failed to manage the street lights.

“We are hearing uncoordinated statements, rumours on social media, at the burials but nobody has come out to inform the country about what is happening. Do we have a government?” MP Ssekikubo implored.

“Its unimaginable that somebody can come, shoot and even confirm that the operation is successful within a period of 25-30 minutes and we are giving government three weeks to provide a report on the rampant killings,” MP Centenary said.

Mr Gilbert Olanya (Shadow minster for defence and security) said; “We have never seen a serious reshuffle in the police yet we see routine reshuffling in the UPDF. The IGP has been in that position for long. New leaders will come with new tricks on how to ensure security.”

Their sentiments were joined by those of Mukono Legislator Betty Nambooze.

While appearing on CBS FM radio talk show, on Thursday night, Nambooze also question the speed at which the fallen AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi was replaced sighting that it would have at least taken some time in respect of the role he played.

“How could a full IGP make changes in a security organization with a handwritten paper as if he is writing to his girl friend, shame upon our police  . Doesn’t Kayihura know that exposing his handwriting now it can easily be forged by criminals to commit more crimes?” Nambooze asked.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Emilian Kayima said Police was soon going to address the nation about the case which has gripped the nation.

“I think at an appropriate time, the police authority will brief the nation on the progress of the investigations,” Mr Kayima said.

Kaweesi, 43, was murdered last Friday together with his driver and bodyguard in Kulambiro, Kampala as they were leaving his home headed for work. He is survived by a wife and children.
He was shot 27 times according to Police. His body guard, Kenneth Erau, took 33 bullets while the driver, Geoffrey Wambewo, was shot 11 times. The Police car in which they travelled had over 70 bullets holes.
