A young woman has drowned in one of the ponds belonging to Kampala tycoon Simpson Birungi also known as Movit at Kamaliba landing site in Lwera.

The victim leaves behind a one-year-old baby to the Lord’s mercy. Her body was taken to Mulago hospital for a postmortem.

The woman who is believed to have drowned on Friday was identified as Annet Nabuuma aged 24, was a wife to Mr Dennis Ssengonzi.

It is not clear how the breastfeeding mother drowned in the pond but Mr John Baptist Kasango, the Officer in Charge of Buwama Police Station said investigations are ongoing to find out what exactly happened.

Meanwhile police in Mpigi District are investigating another mysterious death of a man who was found dead at Mitala Maria in Buwama Sub County.

The blood stained body was found at St. Theresa Convent gardens near Mitala Maria Catholic Parish and St. Balikuddembe Secondary School on Saturday afternoon. However, police is still stuck with the body since the victim had no identification.

Mr Joseph Mbonigaba, the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations at Buwama Police Station said they were informed by a nun who sensed a foul smell before finding the body in their garden.

Police suspects that the man could have been a boda boda rider who was murdered before the thugs took off with his bike.

“Unfortunately, we haven’t found any document with the deceased and the residents don’t know him. You may find that he was a boda-boda cyclist and we suspect the killers to have gone with his motorcycle,” Mbonigaba said adding that, “we are taking the body to Mulago Hospital mortuary for postmortem as we are moving forward to carry out thorough investigations to get the culprits”.

The death comes after the death of five people in the area under unclear circumstances since 2017 started.
