Government has asked doctors to go back to work as negotiations continue.
In an ongoing meeting between the two parties, the Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng maintained her position that the doctors’ strike is illegal, although she acknowledged that their demands are valid and assures that government is working on addressing them.
The Minister for Higher Education John Chrisostom Muyingo reminds the doctors of their role to the well being of Ugandans.
The Attorney General William Byaruhanga says the aim of this meeting is to ensure that government moves within the law.
He adds that government has no plans of dismissing them from their posts despite holding an illegal act, as he further down plays the ongoing allegations that government is not recognizing their strike.

Uganda Medical Association leaders meet a cabinet appointed committee, set up this week to attend to the demands of striking doctors.
The committee is meant to arrive at an amicable and sustainable settlement that would see the doctors call off their industrial action that has paralysed the health sector.
The committee comprises the ministers of Health, Finance, Public Service, Education, Gender, Labour and Social Development and the Attorney General.
The doctors went on strike last week, calling on government to review their salaries and allowances, and improve working.
