Uganda coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic says he has no plans of leaving the national team after helping them to qualify for the elusive Africa Cup of Nations.
The Serbian tactician has been linked to a possible move to South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana, who his side held to a 0-0 draw in West Africa a month ago during a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
He told one of his assistants it would be unfair to leave the Cranes now and he would love to commit himself to them.
“I have been asked a lot of questions about that [Micho leaving] I don’t think it will be fair to leave Uganda,” the national team assistant who preferred anonymity said. “He told he has to stay with us; he has to stay in family and to continue our work.”
However, rumours about Micho being in advanced talks to take over as South Africa’s head coach have refused to go away.
News from South Africa indicates that Micho and the South African FA president, Danny Jordan have already spoken and agreed that he takes over after leading Uganda at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
“Runout is that Micho will take over Bafana job after Afcon 2017,” one of the sources in Cape Town told URN. When contacted for comment Micho simply laughed off and remained elusive about the developments.
The Serbian who coached South African top-side Orlando Pirates before however said there is nothing impossible as coaches are always on the move if the best chance comes. He later posted on his twitter account saying; ” I strongly deny rumours & speculations about linking me with S.Africa due to my unreserved loyalty to Uganda & absolute respect for S.Africa”.
Since taking over as Uganda Cranes coach the Serbian has been complaining about late payments of his salary by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa).
As coach of Uganda since 2011, Micho has guided Uganda to qualification for the 2011 and 2016 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN), winning the 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup and qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon). In-case Micho agrees to join South Africa, he will terminate his running contract with Uganda and compensate the Fufa.
