Uganda Cranes coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has expressed satisfication with his nomination for the 2016 Glo-CAF Awards coach of the year.

The 48-year-old Serbian tactician helped Uganda qualify for the finals of the Africa Nations Cup for the first time since 1978, when they lost to Ghana 2-0 in the finals.

“For real, I am very happy about this, a small satisfaction for madness of sleepless nights and hardworking days garnished with tears, sweat and blood,” Micho told TheUgandan from Dubai where he is currently to make arrangements at the Al Wasl club where he will base Uganda’s training camp.

“This is one of the biggest honours in my sixteen years of wholeheartedly serving African football. My appreciation all great players, coaches, officials, media I ever worked with all this time,” he said.

Micho also stressed that the nomination will challenge him not to rest on his laurels.

“This nomination will only help me in improving myself as a person so as to gain more recongnition through out the globe,” he added.

“This truly shows that somebody somewhere is watching whatever we are doing, so we just need to be diligent in the discharge of our duties.”

Micho encounters it out with DR Congo coach Florent Ibenge, Mamelodi Sundowns Pitso Mosimane and Mo Bejaia coach Nacer Sandjak with the other being Florence Omagbemi, the coach of Nigeria’s women national team while Cranes has been shortlisted alongside Nigeria U-23, Senegal and Guinea Bissau national teams, the Nigerian Women’s football team and DR Congo – the CHAN winners.

His Cranes are grouped alongside Egypt, Ghana and Mali for the 2017 Nations Cup and will be based in Port Gentil during the group phase.

Uganda is the only country that qualified for Gabon 2017 from the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) region and the Cranes are also still in contention for a place at the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.

Sredojevic confirmed that Uganda will begin their warm-up with a game against hosts Gabon on 29 December before facing Libya on 1 January in Tunis then take on Tunisia on 4 January, Slovakia on 8 January and the African champions Ivory Coast in Dubai on 11 January.
