Mengo puts both smiles and worry on the faces of Abazaana in Kasubi Royal Tombs

Today BugandaWatch has learnt through an email from its regular sources on Kasubi Royal Tombs, that Mengo continues to make improvements in the way it treats Abazaana and other staff at the Kasubi Royal Tombs (See: Starving Kasubi Royal Tombs residents warn of plot to chase them out, so there are no witnesses to what happens there). However, a few problems remain.

On August 9, 2016, Mengo sent Buganda Treasury (Ggwanika) officials to pay August allowance to Abazaana. The email continues, “Abazaana were paid UShs 78,000 instead of usual UShs 80,000. The treasury officials claimed that the UShs 2,000 deduction was to cover bank charges.”

The email says that the payments put some smiles on Abazaana faces although they did not believe the explanation for deducting the UShs 2,000.

On the question of the 5 months arrears of unpaid allowance, the email says, “Abazaana were shocked when the Buganda Treasury officials told them that the allowances have been released every month and it is possible that someone has been stealing instead of delivering the money. Abazaana are still confused about who to believe in Mengo.”

The email also reported that Abazaana appreciate that Mengo continues to send them food through Omulangira David Jjuuko although he also takes some of it back with him. It also reports that the solar power plant still has no security and all security lights around the tombs perimeter don’t work because the electric wires connecting them were stolen.

On the reconstruction work, the email only says, “Construction is slowly progressing on the [Muzibu Azaala Mpanga] building and they are still at the stage of Okusiba ebizizi”.
