A man has hanged himself after losing thousands of shillings in sports betting during the recent International football where Uganda Cranes defeated Congo-Brazzaville in a 2018 World Cup qualifier

Mayuge Central Secondary School teacher, Richard Byansi committed suicide on Wednesday, November 16, after placing an Shs 100,000 bet which he lost.

The incident was confirmed Busoga East Police Spokesperson, Mr James Mubi.

According to a source, the deceased, who was in Mayuge town at the time, travelled to his village in Malongo sub county after the loss and hanged himself behind his mother’s house.

The teacher is said to have left behind a note saying that the money he was given as school fees from students had disappeared in betting and therefore saw no need to live.

The deceased was also a finalist student at Busoga University.
