Uganda has had its own drama with ‘Men of God’ in 2017 but the year will be capped off with the presence of one of Africa’s most controversial pastors, Major Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG).
The flamboyant preacher on Tuesday morning touched down at Entebbe Airport to carry out a three-day ‘prophetic crusade’ at Embassy of God Ministries church at Kireka along Namugongo Road.
He was received at the VIP Lounge of the International Airport by Prophet Franklin Mondo Mugisha is the of Empowerment Christian Prayer Center in Mutundwe who led his subjects in kneeling to welcome the Malawian on arrival .
Bushiri started ministering in 2002 and his church has branches in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Namibia and Ethiopia. Shepherd Bushiri is from Malawi, he started his ministerial work from Mzuzu in Malawi before relocating to Pretoria, South Africa.
He is referred to as “Major 1” of ‘Papa in Christian cycles bought three jets within a space of two years. After he bought the third jet a ‘Gulf Stream III’ that worth $37 million on January 6 he told Nyasa Times “I am a man of God. I believe I need to live by example. I teach the word that strengthens the faith of all. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’, and that is exactly what I am doing now. I am what God says I am and not how other people judge me.”
In 2015, Bushiri and renowned Ugandan businesswomen Catherine Naava Nabagesera were disgraced after a self-glorifying exercise in the media claiming that Bushiri’s appointment been chosen chair of an organisation which is said to be a gathering of religious leaders in Africa called AFFRICI. It was later found to be non-existent.
Further contrary to the facts, Naava Nabagesera was also sold an advisor of President Museveni on religious affairs by the Malawian prophet whom State House denied. This came weeks after South African media reported that Bushiri had been in the courts for denying responsibility of a baby who resembled him and the public concluded was his.
He would slightly survive jail when report when he alleged during his sermons that Malawi president Peter Mutharika is a Satanist and is making the country poor as God’s punishment.
Prophet Shepherd Bushiri net worth is estimated $150 million, he owns fleets of cars, houses in Malawi, South Africa and in some other Africa countries.
Aside being a man of God he owns an electronic company, a telecommunication company, various farms and a private University in South Sudan named Bushiri University of Agriculture.
