Buganda Road court further remanded to Luzira prison four suspects charged with the murder of Maj. Muhammad Kiggundu and his body guard Sgt. Steven Mukasa that occured in November last year. The order to further remand the suspects came after state prosecutor, Emily Ninsiima, informed presiding chief magist
rate Jamson Karemani that police inquiries into his case are still on-going.
The suspects through their lawyers led by Fred Muwema said that police led by Nalufenya commandant Wilson Omoding detained them for more than the stipulated 48 hours on top of the daily torture they underwent; asking court to investigate and issue criminal summons to Mr.Omoding.
However, magistrate Karemani has dismissed the request by the accused to have, the Commandant of Nalufenya police station in Jinja summoned to answer to allegations of torture saying the court has no territorial jurisdiction over acts that were allegedly committed in Jinja.
The suspects include the acting Amir of Nakasero Mosque Sheikh Yahaya Ramathan Mwanjje, 2 boda-boda riders from Kyengera; Muhammad Buyondo and Abdul -Wahab Ssendegeya, and Muhammad Ssekandi,a businessman from Masanafu trading centre.
The case has now been adjourned to the 9th February 2017 for further mention
