If you filter out the small matter of 6 Uganda Premier League results then KCCA FC is having a pretty good season so far.
The Kasisiro Boys are leading the 16-team log on the back of some excellent displays earned against established teams. They have done in the first six encounters of the new season precisely what has been mostly beyond them in the league since Christmas, namely win matches. Their league form has been champion-worthy; experience-wise they are a good bet for CAF Champions League group stages.
Vincent Kayizzi has himself taken part in every single league victory since closing from Express in July who he lead to fourth place last season showing the form of a champion. Go to Lugogo the home of the reigning champions, you would be hard-pressed to find a KCCA fan who regards any other player as their team’s stand-out performer in this league.
It was Kayizzi who set the Kasisiro Boys on their way, helping them win in a 2-1 victory against Jinja Municipal Hippos.
Kayizzi was then central to proceedings coming on as a substitute again when KCCA beat Bul 3-1 on Saturday, brilliantly cutting a swath through the Jinja side’s defence as the defending champions soaked all the pressure to maintain their lead.
Others took the spotlight at Green Light Stadium, Arua in KCCA’s only loss so far against Onduparaka but Kayizzi is going to be centre stage on Tuesday evening when KCCA face the club at which he suffered the lowest financial point in his career – Express.
“Kayizzi is an unbelievable player,” KCCA team-mate Paul Mucureezi said this week. “He has a big, big experienced man.”
Mike Mutebi and his deputy Morley Byekwaso seek to guide KCCA to its first league win over Express in six attempts.
Both teams registered draws home and away and come into this explosive tie on the back of impressive league victories over the weekend – a four points apart on the UPL log. The last time fourth placed Express visited Lugogo, then without the artificial turf, they went back jubilating after an assailable 3-0 victory.
“They have experienced players who want to show the world that they still have what it takes to play at the big stage. They have nothing to lose and will come all out to attack,” Kayizzi said of him former team while speaking to the club website. He is however quick to state the difference between the two teams.
Express players Rogers Lukwiya, Isaac Sserunkuuma, Emmanuel Opio, Herman Wasswa and Farouk Musisi will be facing their former team.
“If you compare player per player, KCCA is head and shoulders above Express. Add that to the general belief in our camp that we can beat any team, and you will have us winning on Tuesday,” Kayizzi revealed.
Kayizzi’s league experience is beyond reproach having played at top league sides URA, Vipers, Express and KCCA (thrice) and of course the national team.
“I can’t wait to play against Express, I will have no emotions at all while attacking their backline if given a chance by the managers.”
