Ministry of Public Service has declared Tuesday 10th July a public holiday to enable Ugandans to participate in the Village Local Council One elections.

Nominations of candidates for LC 1 village Chairpersons which began yesterday ends today and the elections will be held on Tuesdat 10th July in 60,800 villages countrywide.

Uganda has not conducted elections for LCI and LCII for the last 17 years, the last one having been held in 2001 before the country shifted from the one-party Movement system to the multiparty system of governance.

The LC elections will be conducted by voters lining up behind their preferred candidate.

Announcing the public holiday on behalf of the minister of public service at Uganda Media Centre, the director Inspections and Quality Assurance at the ministry Solome Nyamongo said this is to allow public officers and all Ugandans to exercise their democratic right to vote.
