Police from Kyenjojo police station are contemplating arresting scores of their own who are accused of robbing accident victims in which even seven people died on spot.
The accident occurred on Kyenjojo Road near Matiri Trading Centre when a bus Reg. No. UAG 409 owned by Kalita Bus Company collided with a canter Reg. No. UAU 381Q which was carrying tea leaves with the death toll now said to be reaching 20.
According to an eyewitness claim by Kampala-based journalist and Pan African Pyramid spokesperson, Andrew Irumba Katusabe, police officers who were deployed on the rescue team when the accident happened failed to declare all the recovered assets especially money.
“I saw finally police parading phones and other items that belonged to the victims, but no money at all,” Mr Irumba told TheUgandan on Saturday afternoon.
He added that saw police officers look on as one man tried to steal loaves of bread mingled with blood from the victims.
For what it’s worth, Mr. Irumba also the Minister of information (IO) in Tooro Kingdom’s Prince Kiijanangoma’s camp claims he arrived at the accident scene few minutes after the fatal accident had just happened as he was a few hundred meters driving behind the fateful bus.
Repeated phone calls to Kyenjojo District Police Commander, Mr Martin Mbabazi have gone unanswered.
Regardless, a top police officer in Kampala who preferred anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matters says the force will vigorously fight the allegations.
