Kulambiro witness tells Police he knows ‘Kaweesi killers’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

As investigators continue looking at clues into the murder of Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi, a new witness has given them yet the biggest hint on who the assassins could be.
A police source said some of atleast the ten Kulambiro locals interviewed by detectives reportedly said they knew one of the boda boda gunmen who killed the police boss.
A deep look at the matter shows that a child claimed he had clearly seen the killers seen the attackers and know one of them.
Police detectives couldn’t reveal the child’s identity to protect him from harm.
He has since been moved into witness protection at an undisclosed safehouse outside Kampala.
It is also understood that some boda boda riders near Doctor’s Lane where Kaweesi was murdered from also revealed to the investigators that they saw the suspected killers pretending to repair their motorbikes near Kaweesi’s home. With the benefit of hindsight, they were simply lying in wait for Kaweesi. When Kaweesi was driven out of his gate, the assailants, disguised perfectly as rider and passenger followed on their motorcycle.
About a kilometre from his home, the men, now masked, opened fire at the police chief’s car instantly killing him, his driver and bodyguard. According to eyewitness accounts, the shooting lasted about five to 10 minutes, prompting a brief exchange of fire with a private security guard manning a nearby residence of some Europeans.
A curious cyclist who heard bullets and rushed to the scene, dived to safety after the gunmen shot in his direction. He bruised his face. Patience Asiimwe, who lives about 50 metres from the scene of the shooting, said she first mistook the gunshots for stones falling on her roof until the shooting intensified. At the time, she was inside her house.
When she heard a motorcycle speeding off in the direction of Kisaasi and all was quiet again outside, she said she moved out to see what had happened. In a distance, she said, she saw a police car with its doors flung open and headlights on.
Within half an hour, no police officer had arrived at the scene. Locals used the opportunity to take photos of the three slain police officers that circulated on social media.
Kaweesi was killed alongside his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Mambewa during an attack by unknown gunmen in Kulambiro, a suburb of Kampala. He will be laid to rest today (Tuesday) at his ancestral home in Kitwekyanjovu, Kyazanga, and Lwengo district.
