KCCA FC Vs SC Villa , P.Omondi Stadium-Lugogo (4:00 pm) live on Azam TV

One of the most, if not most gruesome derbies in East Africa, has got to be be the one fought between the yellow and blue halves of Kampala, between the uptown riche Kampala City Capital Authority FC and the downtown second-rate SC Villa.

With a history dating back to 1979, when a certain Kampala City Council (now KCCA) and Nakivubo Boys (now SC Villa). They have now faced each other more than 100 times, with KCCA having the betterment of the contest. The Jogoos have been the more successful the two sides both in Uganda and regionally having won the league 16 times, the most of any Ugandan football club, featuring in two consecutive finals of the CECAFA Clubs Cup and the CAF Cup in 1991 and 1992, while the Kasasiro Boys have won the league times and eight Ugandan Cup titles, along with a CECAFA Clubs Cup win at the regional level.

The derbies have always been fiery affairs, peppered by some of the more temperamental football fans in the Great Lakes region.

KCCA favourites to nip win

Expect a pre-game handsake and even post match congratulations from both sets of players and coaches but not from the fans.

The fact that KCCA FC has not lost to Villa in the last six league meetings will give the reiging league champions the needed confidence going into Tuesday’s mouthwatering Azam Uganda Premier League clash at Lugogo.

The two teams are in red hot league form ahead of the fierce contest and are searching for maximum points in the battle for top spot.

Since losing to Vipers, KCCA has bounced back with  a 1-1 draw against Kirinya Jinja SS, 3-0 whipping of Police FC and the recent 2-1 win over Bright Stars FC.

On the other hand, Villa has beaten The Saints FC, BUL FC and Express FC in their last three outings since Shafiq Bisaso replaced Deo Sserwadda.

Defensive rock Timothy Awany is back to add steel at the backat at time Hakim Senkumba who has played there in the last two outings is out injured, Lawrence Kasadha will still be missing through injury.

If KCCA FC win, the four-point lead over Villa will stretch to seven and manager Mike Mutebi believes this is possible.

“We don’t want to allow Villa come near us. We are going to employ an attracting and attacking style of play so that we win the match and also entertain the fans,” Mutebi said.

Mutebi, his deputy Badru Kaddu, players Ronald Musana, Isaac kirabira, Robert Ssentongo, Ssenkumba, Ronald Musamali, Benjamin Ochan, Dennis Okot and Isaac Muleme are former Villa staff now at KCCA.

On the other side, goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi, Martin Kizza also played for KCCA FC the in previous seasons.
